What Causes Severe Diarrhoea Along With Abdominal Pain And Fever?

I have had severe diarrhea, severe abdominal pain, feverish, and chills after visit to the bathroom for four weeks now. I have past out twice from the pain. Can not take any over the counter stuff for diarrhea for it make the symptoms worse. I am currently taking metronidazole and azithromycin and now my urine is dark brown like watered down cola. I am thinking food poisoning or shigella.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

Yes food poisoning is highly likely. The combination of antibiotics is also good and if you have most recently begun them, then I am sure you shall soon feel better. But if you began the antibiotics more than 3 days ago and are still not experiencing any improvements then you need to visit your doctor again.

The dark colored urine you described is not good and so I would strongly recommend drinking plenty of fluids, an ORS (oral rehydration solution) available in powder and liquid form and the given antibiotics. Report to your doctor if you are not experiencing an improvement and request for a stool analysis.

Best wishes.
