Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Diarrhoea While On Pantocid For H Pylori Infection?
I had an endoscopy and doctor told me that i have H. pylori infection but no ulcer.I have been taking Pantocid HP for 6 days straight morning & evening and I got diarrhea after second dose. My doctor prescribed me Econorm but still i am having severe diarrhea. can i stop taking Pantocid HP?
Pantocid HP contains Amoxycillin, Pantaprazole and Clarithromycin. Both the antibiotics Amoxycillin and Clarithromycin cause diarrhoea by inducing gastritis. But antibiotics are necessary in Helicobacter pylori infection. So, you may inform the Doctor about your difficulty to prescribe other antibiotics. Avoid spicy and oily foods. Have healthy soft diet.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
