What Causes Severe Dry Mouth?

I have many health problems but the most puzzling one to me at the moment is my excessively dry mouth. Blood tests have shown that I can't store iron, proteins or sodium longterm. I do take diuretics for ankle swelling due to neurological problems related to my spinal surgeries and spinal diseaes. I will, of course, discontinue the diuretics for a short while, but in the meantime, I can't swallow or go 3 minutes without drinking my liquid concoction. It's not water as that flushes what little sodium i have, right out of my body.
So is there anything that ties the inability to store iron, protein and sodium in my body?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it looks like dry tongue with small cuts along with funny taste can be due to causes like:
-Severe dehydration,
-Side effects of medications if you take any.
-Salivary gland dysfunction.
-Nerve damage supplying salivary glands.
-Oral infections like thrush..
-Sjogren's Syndrome..etc..

Altered taste is due to reduced saliva flow only as the saliva maintains taste buds and in the absence of appropriate quantities of saliva there is alteration in the function of taste buds leading to altered taste..

-For dry mouth chew sugarfree chewing gums..
-Drink plenty of water.
-Avoid regular mouthwash and use specialized mouthwash that are formulated for dry mouth patients like Biotene..
-You can also instil artificial saliva drops..
-Suck tart candies as it also stimulates saliva flow..

If does not improve consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
