What Causes Severe Elbow Pain After Taking Several Cortisone Shots?

Severe elbow pain on outside of elbow. Have had about 6 shots of cortisone in past two years. Last shot only lasted about one week. Constant pain to even pick up a glass of water. Do I need surgery to likely reattach the tendons? If I can handle the pain is there any concerns to delay the surgery?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have recurring abdominal cramps with lower back pain and dizziness . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to may reasons like tendinitis , carpal tunnel and tennis elbow , but in your case the symptoms are due to cortisone injection . Usually cortisone shot are considered good option in treating elbow pain , but if pain persists or increases after three shots of cortisone then shorts should not be taken further . In such cases there may be infection in or around elbow and cortisone shots are contraindicated in infection . In thsi situation consult your doctor doctor may give pain killer shots along with antibiotics to clear the infection . For now apply warm compresses to elbow .
