What Causes Severe Fatigue And Confusion?

I talked to my mom on the phone and she didn't always make sense. She turns 78 today. She says she is very tired. We were having a good conversation and then she started talking about yogurt. I asked what brought that on and she said she didn't know. This is not like her. Should I be concerned? One of my daughters also called my mom to wish her a Happy Birthday and my mom asked her what survivor skill she was working on. That makes no sense. I am worried. Should I be taking her to urgent care?

Yes, this is a cause to worry about. If absolutely a normal elderly individual suddenly starts talking irrelevant we have to find the cause. Is she on any drugs for Diabetes or high blood pressure? Any other past history of heart problem or fainting episodes ? Is she oriented to time & space? Is she able to drink or eat? Can she walk to the bath room? What is her pulse or blood pressure? Her ECG should be taken .Consult a MD medicine . He may even advise CT brain to rule out stroke in evolution.
