Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Fatigue And Hypersomnia In En Elderly Person?
What can cause severe fatique. severe, almost no energy. Sleep all night. Get up for 15 minutes, go back to bed and sleep for 2 hours and get up for 30 minutes. Go back to bed and sleep for another 3 hours. Up for another 30 minutes etc. etc. Sleep all night and repeat this for days in a row. Occasionally I can have a spell of 5 or so days in a row where I will feel like a fairly normally 68 year old. Then its back into Rip Van Winkle Land. I have an amune difisicience disise, psisorises. (my spelling is terrible). I have had problems for several years of one sort or another but some of these symptoms are getting much worse. I have to believe they point to something. They are so unusual. It can t just be old age.
Hypersomnia can be part of multiple neurologic disorders as disturbances of secretion of melatonin regulating the sleep cycle or others. Once the basic neurology has been evaluated , it is mandatory for best judgement with sleep cycle study and if needed MRI brain with or without neuroendocrine marker studies as well.
