Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Fatigue And Nausea While Suffering From Huntington S Disease?
My friend was diagnosed with Hunting s disease more than 20 years but has not had symptoms until recently. She has had extreme fatigue for more than 6 months, and has several episodes of painful red raised rashes her doctor treated with steroids. She has flu like symptoms at least once a month. Yesterday she became nauseated and vomited out of the blue. She also drinks too much.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The fatigue in Huntington's disease is can be due to 2 reasons:
1) The disease itself causes fatigue by the continuous firing of nerves that supply the muscles and which in turn lead to over activity of the muscles. 2) Medications used in Huntington's disease can themselves sometimes result in some weakness and fatigue as they primarily act on the nervous system.
The painful raised rash seems like an allergic reaction the cause of which can be ascertained by the detailed history and careful physical examination.
The Flu-like symptoms can be the side effect of some the medicines used in the treatment of Huntington's disease but need details like which medications your friend is on.
Nausea and Vomiting can again be either due to the medicines themselves or can be Alcohol induced Gastritis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Pooja.Sanap
