What Causes Severe Fatigue While Suffering From Recurrent Migraine?
I have been severely fatigued for weeks now. I have suffered from migraines my whole life and have even went to the headache institute of Raleigh NC and no relief. i am on 100 mg of Topamax a day and have been prescribed relpax and imatrex, maxalt, with no help, at this point my quality of life is at its all time LOW. do you have any recommendations
First and foremost, Topamax (or Topiramate, the drug in the medicine) itself has a significant side effect of tiredness and fatigue. So it is quite possible that you have the fatigue due to the medicine. Second possibility is that this may be a syndrome called Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
This is very commonly seen in people who suffer from migraine. A simple Vitamin D and calcium supplementation may afford you some benefit. Finally, for migraine, there are now a new medicine - CGRP antagonists.
These are once a month to twice a month injections that have been found to afford significant relief in migraine patients. I would suggest visiting your neurologist for the same, or referral to a center where this can be administered to you.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
