Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been losing a substantial amount of hair for over a year. It began with damage from a perm but has continued. My doctor recently did blood work. It is not my thyroid. I m 60 and have experienced menopause starting over 10 years ago. I eat fairly healthy though not a great deal of food though enough for my petite size. I am using Purador shampoo yet my hair continues to thin at a tremendous rate and I don t know what to do.
I have gone through your question and understand your concern. Stress is a major cause of hairfall, menopause itself is a physiological state where body undergoes changes which will disturb the normal body functions in different ways. As of now don't stress with hairfall in mind try to stay fit, keep up with your healthy lifestyle and in couple of months the hairfall will stop on its own.
Do take multivitamins on daily basis to fill in the nutritional gaps. Apart from stress, hair growth enters a phase of rest called as "Telogen phase" where the growth stops and we notice a lot of hairfall. It last only for a couple of months after which hair growth gets back to the normal growth phase. Telogen phase is normal part of hair growth cycle.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ayesha Shareef
