Hi,
Hair loss after recovering from
dengue is a known phenomenon called
telogen effluvium. Telogen effluvium is a temporary condition characterized by excessive shedding of hair that occurs due to a disruption in the hair growth cycle.
While the exact mechanisms are not fully understood, there are several factors that may contribute to hair loss after dengue treatment:
* Physiological stress: Dengue
fever itself can cause significant physical stress on the body. The immune response, fever, and other symptoms can disrupt the normal hair growth cycle and push a large number of hairs into the resting phase (telogen). This results in increased shedding a few months later.
* Nutritional deficiencies: During dengue fever, the body's nutrient requirements may increase, and
poor appetite or gastrointestinal symptoms may lead to inadequate nutrient intake. Deficiencies in vitamins, minerals, and
proteins can affect hair health and contribute to hair loss.
* Medications: Certain medications used to treat dengue fever, such as
antiviral drugs or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), may have side effects that include hair loss.
* Psychological stress: Experiencing a severe illness like dengue can be emotionally stressful, which can also impact the hair growth cycle and contribute to hair loss.
It's important to note that hair loss following dengue fever is usually temporary and the hair usually regrows within a few months as the body recovers. However, if you are concerned about your hair loss, consult with a
dermatologist to evaluate you and provide treatment options.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
