Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Hair Loss Along With Red Irritable Scalp?
Had severely high temps with the flu 104 plus three different times in December. Since I have had hair loss sore gums receded and red irritable scalp. Headaches with sinus sensitive to cold damp air. Also high blood pressure. My blood pressure was normal during the flu in December.
The severe hair loss with red irritable scalp indicates underlying acute fungal (tinea) or bacterial (staph epidermidis or aureus) infection in most of the cases. The raised blood pressure can be secondary to underlying stress and anxiety, systemic inflammatory response via cytokines and other mediators.
My guidelines at present: - Cleansing with anti fungal shampoo as Ketoconazole (most effective strategy in such case) - Prescription of anti-fungal and anti bacterial medications as per the culture report or clinical decision - Control of blood sugar - Supportive medicines as anti inflammatory, antihistamine as cetrizinesteroid shots or medicines as per the case need.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
