What Causes Severe Hair Loss In A Hypertensive Diabetic?

My wife has been having very thinning hair, recently. At 66 years never health problems until now. She recently is taking medication for high blood pressure (Lisinoprol the past couple of months - discontinued this week for triamterene, since Lisinoprol made her too light headed especially when in fluorescent lighted room -- and recently discovered type 2 diabetes.(taking metformin) Her doctor had mentioned a possible thyroid problem as to her hair problem...she had the thickest course hair for years. What do you think...Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear Greetings
Regarding your 66yrs old wife with hair loss following a diagnosis of diabetes and hypertension I will suggest this is one of the features of menopause due to hormonal inbalance especially estrogen

In view of this please do a hormone profile test and see a gynecologist specialist for further clinical assessment and adequate drug prescription

She will benefit from hair growth shampoo

I hope this helps Regards
