Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 67 and in poor health. I have very vivid nightmares . I also have hallucinations during my night. My husband claimed I talk loudly in my sleep and are combative. He says he finds me sitting up in bed, asleep but talking to dead relatives. Am I certifiable?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe hallucinations during sleep , which is also known as parasomnia. Well parasomnias often run in families and so there is probably a genetic factor in many cases. Brain disorders may be responsible for some parasomnias, such as many cases of REM sleep behavior disorder. Parasomnias may also be triggered by other sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, and by various medications. I would suggest you to change your sleep habits like sleep early , get up early , do light exercises like brisk walk ,meditation , yoga and ear healthy . If condition doesn't get better then consult neurologist for proper examination and treatment . Doctor may also refer you to endocrinologist for hormonal changes problem .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
