Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Headache After Taking Steroid Injection?
I had a cervical epidural steroid injection about a month ago and have been having headaches ever since. my Dr. assures me it is not from the injection and I don t need a blood patch, but I did not have them prior to the injection. How long can these last before they clear up on there own ?
A headache is a well known possible adverse effect of epidural injection. This generally happens from changes of the pressure in the cerebrospinal fluid.
It may start within a few days from the injection and last for a few weeks. It is worse on sitting and standing and gets better while laying down.
There is no specific treatment needed but usual painkillers like paracetamol and ibuprofen, even though these may not help with it sometimes.
I would expect your headache to be better within a couple of weeks. If you don't improve in a couple of weeks or you get any worse you will need to see your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
