What Causes Severe Headache Along With Elevated Blood Pressure?

My daughter just went to an urgent care facility. She s been getting terrible headaches. Worse than migraines. B/p is 146/106. I know that pain can cause raised b/p. Can u tell me why they would prescribe praminol? Why would they prescribe a beta blocker She denies palpitations. She s 39. She s had Surg for her septum. One side has healed nicely but the other side didn t heal well. Still has a hole in it. Past hx is she used to do drugs. Cocaine mainly. She s been drug free for 12 yrs. she s allergic to aleve/Motrin/Advil.

Hello,

Beta blockers are sometimes used in migraine patients because they affect the vessels in the brain and may prevent the headache. Generally they need to be taken for months for this purpose. On the other hand the beta blocker will reduce the high blood pressure, even though this is not of high importance because high blood pressure due to stress (headache in this case) and that is not constantly high does not need treatment.

I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
