What Causes Severe Headache At Night?

My daughter is experiencing headaches that match the hypnic headache description perfectly, wakes her up at around 2am, sometimes twice. The only part of the description that doesn t match is age, as she is only 22. She previously had only occasional headaches, and a chiropractic adjustment usually helped her for many months at a time. She had two adjustments recently but it is not helping these middle of the night headaches

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms are consistent with common causes like a migraine or a tension headache, as a first line management, you can try analgesics like aceclofenac or tramadol for pain relief.

If symptoms persist, better to consult a neurologist and plan for an MRI brain to rule out possible intracranial (inside the brain) causes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
