Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Good evening I am a 60 year old retired RN. My husband is 68 with a few medical issues. This is our second marriage and we have been married for 4 years. We have an active sex life but five days ago while engaging in intercourse right at the moment my husband was ready to orgasm he had to stop as he had gotten a very severe all over the head headache. No breathing problems, pulse was steady but he had a severe headache for about two hours. I wanted to take him to the VA ED but he refused. My first thought was a stroke but his speech was good and no numbness. We have since made love twice without incident. I think he should be checked out but he will not go see his doc about this. My question, could this be something that can happen to,older men? Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer my question.
A headache builds up as sexual excitement increases, this is a rare type of a headache called Coital Cephalalgia. They are generally caused by muscle strain, contraction of the neck or general exertion.
Most of these headaches are nothing to worry about. However, it can be due to CAD, intracranial aneurysms, stroke, etc. He may need some medications.
Get him physically checked & have MRI, CT done to rule out any developing pathology.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
