What Causes Severe Headaches Along With Sneezing And Running Nose?

Hi doc, I have a question, I had a severe headache in scale 1-10 I think it s 8, and had the other symptoms like sore throat, sneezing, runny nose, but what the most I couldn t stand it is the headache, so I bought the medicine from cvs to relieve my headache, I bought the extra strength one, but it didn t reduce my headache and since yesterday i felt heartburn, I thought it would go away if i eat something but it didn t, it s worsened, i felt nauseous, and wanted to throw up. So I stopped the medicine, but my headache is killing me...my hands is sweating and sometimes i feel chest pain, can i take the dayquil or nyquil to reduce my symptoms?does dayquil cause heartburn also? Thank you....

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of severe headaches along with sneezing and running nose which seems to be due to mainly upper respiratory tract infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist once. Doctor may order certain test like nose or throat culture and test , blood test and chest X-ray to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other condition like viral infection. Get pulmonary function tests done as well to check extent of infection and start treatment accordingly. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics , anti inflammatory and decongestants. You should take cough expectorants as well over the counter anti histamine like benadryl . Use mist humidifiers in room. Do warm saline gargles.
