What Causes Severe Hip Pain After A Cortisone Injection Shot?

I had a cortisone injection in my hip on Monday afternoon. I was feeling better today, but I just awoke with sudden moderately severe pain in the hip and nothing is helping. It hurts no matter what position I am in. A burning pain that radiate to my butt.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
The pain radiating to the butt from the hip is suggestive of piriformis syndrome. A condition affecting a muscle in the butt. In addition to the cortisone injection you received, you would need anaesthetic injection and physical and occupational therapy. While you wait to reschedule a visit with your doctor, apply moist heat to the pint of pain and take over-the-counter pain medications such as ibuprofen.
