I run4 miles a day. Tonight I had a sharp pain in my hip caused by each downward impact .I could control the severity of the pain by modifying my gait and posture. How can I tell if it is muscle or joint pain? What exercises would you recommend to rehab this area. My email address is
The sharp pain in the hip if you are telling, then it might be due to nerve issue, and needs a thorough clinical examination. As the sharp pain can be due to pinched nerve in the lumbar spine. Also, as you had a 4 mile run, this could be related to DOMS as well, which is the delayed onset muscle soreness.
First i will advice you to wait and watch if the symptoms are increasing or decreasing. If it is DOMS then the pain should come down in 3-4 days of time. Also, note that for DOMS there is only the inflammation in the muscle fibers and it heals on its own, medicine can not help. Performing slow walks for 2-3 days should make some help
Also, if its a pinched nerve then the pain will increase as days passes by, and you need a thorough assessment for it and then physical therapist can help better.
