What Causes Severe Hot Flashes And Fatigue While Treating Hypothyroidism?

I have hypothyroidism and I ve been on Levothyroroxine 50mcg for a month now an it seems like my hot flashes and fatigue is getting worse. I was told that they were symptoms she they should improve. I m not scheduled to see my doctor until October. Could these symptoms be due to another problem? I want to set up a sooner appts but I wanna make sure my concerns are legit before I do that because my doctor can make me feel like I m wasting her time if my concerns are not really concerns to her. I m so frustrated and embarrassed because my hot flashes are so severe and frequent that I am changing my clothes 3 to 4 times a day and thru the night. I m not working so all I do is try to rest and I am still extremely tired. Please help me.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the hot flushes with tiredness indicate uncontrolled thyroid function affecting the basic metabolic rate of the body in various parameters at central receptor levels and peripheral tissues as well.

* Usually the thyroid levels come under control around 7-10 days of the therapy initiation in case of a hypothyroid patient, though there can be individual case variabilities.

* If the symptoms are severe enough and you can not wait for the next scheduled appointment, an ER visit is recommended here.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
