What Causes Severe Itchiness On The Hand And Numbness In The Finger?
I have a breakout on my hand that is extremely itchy at times when it had no lotion or some type of moisture on it. Started as one itchy area and has now spread from in between my thumb and index finger down to my wrist on the back side of my hand. It s been about a month now and it has no signs of clearing up. I have a picture if needed.
hi. i have read your question and understand your concern.
your symptoms can either be because of hand eczema or fungal infection. but since its a localised area and its only been a month, i would first like to treat it as fungal infection.
if such a patient walks into my clinic, i would do a scraping to confirm my diagnosis. fungal scraping is a small office procedure. your lesion will be scraped off, KOH is added and then its seen under microscope.
if the scraping showed fungi then i would start him on an antifungal course like capsule itraconazole 100mg twice daily and terbinafine cream twice daily.
if the scraping is negative we can assume its hand eczema and start potent corticosteroids such as betamethasone ointment.
i suggest you see your dermatologist and get your lesion examined. you can get a KOH done if your doctor agrees to it.
hope this was helpful. for any further queries please get back to us. thanks.
