Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello; I have a meniscal tear in the medial meniscus. I have been doing a physical therapy and using inflammatory drugs also i use knee pad during the day. So recently it started to get itchy and the location which my knee pad puts pressure on changed color. I thought about this as a normal reaction because all day long my knee is in that knee pad under my clothes which leaves it dry. And i left the drugs because i finished the box the doctor gave me. Do you think it is an inflammation that causes the itchy feeling? Or is it healing? I was able to walk better recently so thats why i thought i was improving but i am now concerned about this. Please help. Thank you
thank you for your query. glad to hear that you are feeling better.
Wearing a knee pad for most of the day can cause moisture to accumulate between your skin and knee pad and can be absorbed into the pad itself.
This can cause bacteria and fungi to grow and irritate your skin and may lead to discoloration and infection. Also if it is too tight prolonged pressure can cause local dermatitis
I recommend seeing your physician and in the meantime, see if the pad is washable and if it's too tight (you should be able to insert two fingers snugly along the side).
Wear it snug but not tight. Hope I've helped. Feel free to get back to us of you need any clarification.wish you good health

What Causes Severe Itchiness On The Knee?
thank you for your query. glad to hear that you are feeling better. Wearing a knee pad for most of the day can cause moisture to accumulate between your skin and knee pad and can be absorbed into the pad itself. This can cause bacteria and fungi to grow and irritate your skin and may lead to discoloration and infection. Also if it is too tight prolonged pressure can cause local dermatitis In your case, I think it is either a fungal infection and if that is the case, topical antifungal creams will help. Just remember that you need to use it as prescribed. Or pressure Dermatitis. I recommend seeing your physician and in the meantime, see if the pad is washable and if it s too tight (you should be able to insert two fingers snugly along the side). Wear it snug but not tight.
