What Causes Severe Itching And Burning Sensation In Arms Despite Taking Benadryl?

My head and arms are chronically itching and burning.I have tried various shampoos, use gentle laundry soap, take Benadryl and nothing seems to help. I also use a skin-calming lotion on my arms.I m a fibromyalgia patient and I m wondering if it is connected.

Detailed Answer:
Warm Welcome. I appreciate your trust in HCM and assure you are on best portal on the globe for expert online medical services.

I have thoroughly reviewed health query you raised, and well realize all of those concerns. Being your physician, I will take care all of them today and will extend my expertise to solve the problems. There are some deficiencies in your information regarding your current medications but I shall be able to throw some light on the problem.

Burning and itchy skin is quite commonly faced by patients with fibromyalgia. A nerve getting pinched or compressed by your stiffened muscles causes the other nerves of affected area to become hypersensitive. You are advised to use your medicine prescribed by physician regularly.

These are some remedies that can improve your skin problem.
•     Use tab. Naproxen 20mg once daily. It is painkiller but helps in burning sensation.
•     Tab. Pregabalin 75mg twice a day. Dose can be increased to 150mg twice a day after a week.
•     Apply capsaicin cream on the areas of skin where you are feeling itchy. It will numb your pain receptors.

Regarding skin care, I would recommend you to moisturise your skin well. Dry skin will make your itching worse. Avoid hot water and instead use lukewarm warm. Also minimize your use of cosmetics.

Hope I addressed all the concerns you have. Let me know if you have further questions. I will be more than happy to clear any doubts. Keep a follow up to see how you doing.

Regards!
Dr. Ali Raza
