What Causes Severe Itching And Burning Sensation On The Skin?

My skin feels like it is burning and extremely itchy. It has been going on for about a month. The medication I take is lexapro, synthroid, and fosomax. I take the lexapro because I woke up about a year ago with tinnitus and it made me extremely anxious.

Hello,

Burning sensation of skin along with severe itching seems to be most probably due to an allergic reaction and as you take a number of medicines it can be due to any of them. It can also be due to other allergens like any food or medicine, skin irritant like soap, detergent, skin cosmetics etcetera. I would suggest you consult an allergist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like allergic tests like patch test, RAST test, food challenge test etcetera can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly. An allergist can advise oral anti-allergic as well as injectable steroids for relief. As of now,
-You can take anti-allergics like Levocetirizine and Allegra to control the itching and swelling.
-Do cool compresses.
-Application of calamine lotion can help in soothing the skin.
-You can also be instilled an immunotherapy that will help in reducing the severity and frequency of allergic attack.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
