hello concerned patient.Thank you for writing to Hcm
i read your history and concerned with the
sickle cell disease you have and yes i understand its very agonizing.
I will help you understand what it is basically and ways to decrease the symptoms associated with it
as you know sickle cell disease is a blood disorder in which your red blood cells looks like the sickle farm tool instead of the normal oval doughnut shape.
normal blood cells move about easily.but in your case, he sickle-shaped cells are rigid and sticky, and they can block the flow in your small blood vessels. That's what causes the pain of a sickle cell crisis.
and understand it is familial and there is no complete cure though you control the symptoms and recurring episodes.
i would recommend the following for you:
-try analgesics like
tylenol,
ibuprofen etc if its helps for immediate effect
-avoid sudden change in temperature and extremes of temperature
-avoid high altitudes as this will cause severe breathless in your case.
-another drug i would suggest is HYDROXY UREA which will prevent few normal blood cells before sickling and decreases episodes of sickle cell crisis.
-stay well hydrated,maintain proper hygiene.
-get you and your kids vaccinated.
All the above steps can reduce the pain and incidence of crisis episodes.
hope it clarifies and helps you out.
Followup here or with a haematologist/physician if you have doubts.
Good day and take care
