What Causes Severe Knee Pain After Sports Activity?
Hi, yesterday at basketball I was going up for a layup and I got kneed really hard above my knee and at first my whole leg hurt even my foot was cramping and I couldn t bend my leg at all. Today it still hurt but I can walk on it but it hurts a lot when I bend it backwards and when I fully extend it forwards
With extreme pain during knee movements may indicate underlying ligament or muscle sprain, strain or tear. My guidelines at present: - Make an appointment with your sports physician or family physician for primary check up - Local application of heating pad 5 minutes each 3 times a day - Capsaicin cream or spray over the affected knee 4-5 times a day - Analgesic tablet as ibuprofen with paracetamol 3 times a day after meals if no history of drug sensitivity preferably with antacid - Avoid further sports till recovery
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
