What Causes Severe Leg And Knee Pain?

I have a pain in my leg right behind my knee in the crease of the back of my leg....is this muscular or a tendon or ligament. ..and what is the treatment?.. a few weeks ago I thought it was a hamstring from tennis, but that went away ...and it seemed that from some stretching exercises for my leg/hamstring, this pain behind my knee surfaced...once again today just from walking slowly in the sidewalk.

The Thigh bone ( Femur) sits on the Leg bone(Tibia). There is a soft bone( Cartilage ) at the end of both these bones to help them move on each other. To keep these two bones alligned there are two ligaments on the inner side & outer side & two more inside the joint.
Injury to the cartilage inside the joint or the ligaments inside the joint will usually produce recurring pain behind the knee. A simple Ultrasound Scan by a good Sonologist or an MRI will clarify the nature & extent of injury.
