Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am having leg cramps. They happen at night. This has been going on for a couple of months on and off. It is getting worse. My inner legs are cramping between my knees and hips. I drink plenty of water and gaterade but the cramps have not gone away.
what you are describing is called Rest cramps (nocturnal cramps) and often occur at night. The cause is unknown and there is no known treatment. Other causes for cramps are low levels of certain minerals, such as calcium, magnesium and potassium. Taking supplements containing these minerals would be the sensible thing to do. Also foods like bananas, who are rich in potassium, milk products (high calcium content) and nuts/almonds (rich in magnesium) would be a good source and natural remedy.
All the best
