What Causes Severe Leg Cramps While On Clopidogrel, Lisinopril And Hydrochlorothiazide?
My husband is taking Atrovastatin Calcium at night also he takes HCTZ Lisinopril 10 1 tab every A.M. and Clopidogrel 75mg every A.M. he is having severe leg cramps from his hip area down to his toes. he says the cramps are very painful and I am having a hard time helping him as he gets quite upset almost screaming with pain from these cramps. DO U think some of his medications can cause these cramps they seem to be getting worse every day
Hydrochlorthiazide in his medication is a cause of excess electrolytes plus water from his body. Also Statins are known to cause cramps and limb pain. It will be good if he replaces HCTZ with another drug and takes Atorvastatin in the morning. Next time he has any cramps, give him some fruit juice with a pich of salt immediately and see if it improves in seconds. If it does the culprit cause is loss of electrolytes in urine. It will be prudent to check his fasting Blood sugar on two separate occasions as well as Glycated Hemoglobin vales when you next visit the lab. Diabetes can occur concurrently with Hypertension and is a cause of cramps frequently. Godspeed!
