What Causes Severe Migraine Headache During 12 Weeks Of Pregnancy?

Hi Doctor, I am 12 weeks pregnant, and have frequest migraine headaches, which without my regular painkillers like vasograin and butaproxivon last for three to four days. The pain is unbearable and paracetamol is not working. please suggest some pain relief medication. thanks

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns

Any health issue during pregnancy is problematic because all medication can't be prescribed as like normal person. Caution should be taken not to prescribe those drugs that cross placenta to effect the baby's health.

In your situation, presently your suffering from migraine type of headache. It needs two types of treatments.
1)to control acute attack.
2)to control severity and number of attacks.

To abort the attack, use paracetamol 650mg

Forstopping migraine compltely, use tablet amitriptyline daily for 2-3 months as prophylaxis.It not only reduces number of attacks but also reduces severity and duration of headache.

As migraine is stress related, I recommend you to start practicing stress management techniques like Practicing mindfulness, relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, following good dietry habits, doing regular physical activity.
