What Causes Severe Mood Swings And Fatigue Post Removal Of Thyroid Lobe?

I am a 53 year old female, partial hysterectomy in 2000. 2 years ago I had the right lobe of my thyroid removed along with a tumor, was tested and told no medication needed in the time since then I ve struggled with constant up and down weight gain, bloating, severe fatigue, terrible mood swings, do not sleep well and have severe sugar/sweets cravings. I saw my primary Doctor who did blood work said I was menopausal referred to gyn Doctor who put me on a compound hormone/testosterone therapy. I am still having the same symptoms, am wondering if I should be concerned about my thyroid functions.

Hi,

Noted your history of partial hysterectomy in 2000, right thyroid lobectomy 2 years ago, all relevant tests done, referred to Gynecologist for HRT as you have mood swings and symptoms suggestive of menopausal symptoms, still not getting the benefits of treatment.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
If the HRT that is Hormonal Replacement Therapy is ineffective and if all the blood reports related to your hormones including thyroid functions are normal then an opinion of a Psychologist or Psychiatrist can helps to have possible cause and get treated accordingly.
A proper counselling and medicinal treatment can help you come out of the problems.
Also look for the causes in family or at work and so on so that the instigating or enhancing factors can be known and avoided for you to settle well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
