Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I get intense muscle spasms under my ribs daily and the pain is crippling. I went to see my PMC today and she dismissed as she never heard of this. It lasts around 2 minutes and then it goes away. This has been going on around 2 months. Any ideas what might be happening?
One of the commonest causes of Muscle spasms under ribs can occur due to inflammation of cartilage leading to costochondritis, which can be treated by taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory pain killers after consulting a physician.
Other common problems like gastritis also need to be ruled out.
Muscle spasms below the rib can occur due to infections, inflammations of underlying organs depending on the side and position of various organs for which it is advisable to consult a physician who can carry on further investigations like ultrasonography of the abdomen.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Riyanka Chail, General & Family Physician
