What Causes Severe Neck Pain In A 5 Year Old Girl?
My 5 year old daughter has been complaining all day about neck pain, she hasn t gotten up from the couch and when she has to get up to go to the bathroom she cries hysterically from the pain. No fever, nothing else but neck pain. Should I take her to the ER?
Very likely if she only has the neck pain that is worse on movement but no fever or headache and is active, she is having a muscular pain in her neck. Muscular pains are generally caused by a muscular strain and spasm and can be severe pain with movements. They are generally not serious and should be better soon with the use of ibuprofen and paracetamol and some local compresses. If you notice a lump in the neck or she has not been feeling well (less active, fever, headaches or vomiting) then it is good to send her and see a doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
