What Causes Severe Pain Above The Hips On The Left Side?

I am male, have a sharp pain right above my left hip, and id say its a little under my left ribs more closer to my hip, but still above it. It comes and goes, is worst in the morning, seems to be escalating, it started about 3 weeks ago, and i drink alot of hard alcohol, maybe a factor.
