What Causes Severe Pain And Bleeding During Intercourse Post Hysterectomy?
i had a hysterectomy about 5 months ago. at 8 weeks post op, I had an infection that started with painful sex, heavy watery discharge that went from clear to slightly yellow, and severe abdominal pain. Since then, at least once a month when we attempt to have intercourse, I have severe pain, bleeding after sex, and for a few more days I will continue to have abdominal pain and bloating.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Bleeding after intercourse needs to be investigated. With a previous history of hysterectomy it is important to assess the surgical site. As you have mentioned that there was evidence of infection after the hysterectomy thus it is important to rule out infection. Bleeding after intercourse is commonly observed in lesions of the cervix like infection, inflammation, erosion, growth etc. In case you have undergone sub-total hysterectomy i.e. leaving the cervix intact, there is a possibility of lesion of the cervix. Thus, I suggest you to consult your gynecologist for clinical assessment of the genital tract to look for possible cause of bleeding.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
