General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The autoimmune arthritis conditions would probably top the list as possible causes that need to be ruled out. This includes conditions such as:

(1) lupus
(2) rheumatoid arthritis
(3) sjogren disease
(4) adult onset stills disease

Other potential causes would be osteoarthritis or sickle cell trait. These are only some of the possible causes that may be considered. You would need additional blood tests along with imaging to determine if any of these are present.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
