What Causes Severe Pain At The Back Of The Neck And Head Despite Taking Excedrin?
My husband has never had a history of migraines before but his mother has. He started getting a throbbing pain in the back of his head and neck last night. He took Tylenol and went to bed. He woke up this morning in a panic because his head and neck hurt so much. He took a cold shower which seemed to help but only for a few minutes. He has been taking excedrine but nothing seems to really help. The pain has been so bad he has been sweating but no fever and he has been turning pale and vomiting. What should I do?
Severe pain in the neck & back of the head associated with sweating, vomiting & turning pale are symptoms of migraine (since he has a history of migraine) but it can be indicative of stroke or heart attack or developing CAD.
Your husband is suggested to visit ER, get clinically examined & get all Cardiac function tests done. CBC, Stress test, Echo, Lipid FT, EKG, etc done to detect any developing CAD. His treatment will depend on the reports obtained. Other medical conditions causing such symptoms are arthritis or herniated discs.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
