Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been having severe headaches in my temples and behind my eyes My temples and eyes are always tender to touch Temperatures Arteritis (sp?) has been ruled out Ophthalmologist found nothing CT scan clear When I get the headaches my PCP has had me do a Prednisone taper. It works great until I get below 20 mgs Where should I go next?
Temporal arteritis is suspected due to pain in the temples and very high ERS, and is confirmed with biopsy or the artery. If you have done these and the ERS is not very high then very likely you don't have temporal arteritis. If the ERS is high then prednisone should be used.
There are other causes of pain in the temples as well. It maybe due to tension headache or especially if the pain is behind the eyes or above and in between the eyes, sinusitis can also be considered. CT scan would have shown if there was sinusitis.
Prednisone might be helping because it helps reduce inflammation. You need to talk with your doctor which is the diagnosis he suspects and how to follow up while he has you on prednisone.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
