What Causes Severe Pain Below The Sternum After Taking Pepcid AC?

I took 1 Pepcid AC 2 days ago because of stomach pain thought it was acid and Pepcid was the appropriate OTC pill. After taking it, I had severe intense pain below the sternum, I broke into a sweat, I almost called 911. My sternum still hurts and it s been 2 days ago.

Hi,

I think you should get further checked by cardiologist to rule out cardiovascular events. EKG and echocardiogram, and chest X-ray to run further.

Next, upper endoscopy and abdominal ultrasound to rule out stomach ulcer/gastritis/acid reflux and other problems related to internal organs, respectively.

For the moment, I suggest to take:
- antacid to stabilize stomach pH
- probiotic to help digestion
- try Paracetamol for the pain if can help; otherwise take Spasmex
