What Causes Severe Pain Between Shoulder Blades In A Cardiac Patient?
Elderly parent with pacemaker/defibrillator implant since April due to cardiomyopathy. No ongoing arrhythmia. Also has diverticulitis - is taking acid reflux and drugs for chronic diarrhea. Has had blood work, scope and colonoscopy - shows no blockages. She is having continual discomfort between shoulder blades, today servere enough she fainted. Doing fine now, mild discomfort. She has seen an internist and gastrologist. Having her contact cardiologist to review the readout for time period of fainting. Suggestions?
I think she will need to have a heart ultrasound, ECG, and a chest x-ray to examine the heart and the aorta for possible related diseases. Lung problems may cause shoulder pain as well, this is why the x-ray will help to rule them out.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
