What Causes Severe Pain From Behind The Head To The Neck?
I have been occasionally having shooting pains up the back of my head, left side from bottom of nevk, up about 2 inches...then in the past week, I ve been getting shooting pains up the right side from bottom about halfway up. These pains make me cringe. My question is should I go to my regular doctor or should I go to a neurologist?

Thanks for the query, I understand your query.
The sudden neck pain starting from bottom & going midway upwards is most likely to be due to muscle or tendon pain... due to sudden jerky action of the part / faulty pillow & sleeping in uncomfortable position.
The other cause of neck pain is following compression of nerve supplying the part at spinal or other levels. This pain is associated with tingling or numbness / weakness in muscle activity.
* If you don't have symptoms of nerve compression pain- you can visit a family physician, Mostly muscular pains are relieved in few days ( 8- 14 days ) . Fomentation, muscle relaxant ointment & ani inflammatory pills help the healing.
* In case the pain does not completely go in 15 days/ nerve pain pattern appears- you should consult an Orthopedic surgeon.
