What Causes Severe Pain In Ankle Radiating Up The Thigh?

I HAVE HAD SERVERE PAIN IN BOTH OF MY LEGS FOR 7 YEARS NOW. I KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO START TO FLAIR UP BECAUSE IT STARTS IN MY ONE ANKLES BUT THEN GOES UP INTO MY INNER RIGHT THIGH. IT IS SO BAD THAT IT TOTALLY STOPS ME IN MY TRACKS AND CAN NOT MOVE FOR AT LEAST 20 MINUTES. IT BURNS LIKE FIRE. IN 2012 THEY SAID I HAD ATHEROSCLEROTIC CALCIFICATION OF THE ABDOMINAL AORTA AND ILIAC BRANCH VASCLATURE BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. I HAD A SISTER WHO DIED OF AAA AND MY ONLY LIVING SIBLING HAS A SMALL ONE THE ARE WATCHING. COULD THIS BE THE CAUSE OF MY SERVERE CRAMPING AND BURNING OF MY LEGS? IT SEEMS TO FLAIR UP OVER THE LEAST SMALL THINGS LIKE CLEANING MY HOUSE SWEEPING . IT REALLY HURTS AFTER WHILE IM IN RESTING A RESTING STATE.

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe pain in ankle radiating up the thigh . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to aging-related wear and tear called disk degeneration , it can also occur due to knee hoint swelling , DVT and muscle cramps. Twisting and turning while lifting is also one of the major reason for this problem . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan ,MRI , myelogram , nerve conduction test along with physical examination . Doctor may prescribe percocet , gabapentin , muscle relaxant along with cortisone injection . Doctor may also recommend physical therapy and surgery in some severe cases. For now keep your leg in hot water tub with epsom salt for 15 minutes and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .
