Hello,
Pain in the center of your back has following reasons:
1) Incorrect posture for prolonged duration
2) Trauma
3) Thoracic spondylitis
4) Paraspinal muscles strain
5) Scoliosis
6) Lifting or carrying heavy weights
7) Osteoarthritis
Treatment depends upon the cause. To those patients who come to my clinic with similar symptoms, I do recommend the following:
1) X-ray thoracic and cervical spine
2) Pain relieving medications like NSAIDs
Ibuprofen or
Aceclofenac daily twice for 1 week
3) The above medication must be combined with muscle relaxants like Chlorzoxazone
4) To prevent gastric irritation, tab. Pantop 40 mg once daily before food
5) Back muscles strengthening exercises in physical therapy
6) Avoid lifting heavy weights
7) Avoid uncomfortable postures
If your pain doesn't come down by the above mentioned treatment, or it persists even after 1 week, you may have to see an orthopedic surgeon.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
