Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my son jumped into water from height about 3 hours ago. He now as persistent pain. There is no blood present. He has been lying on his right side and hoping gravity word drain if it were water. I'm concerned he may have perforated his ear drum. He is not a complainer, but I can tell he is distresed
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain severe pain in ear that has occurred after diving seems to be most probably due to perforation in the eardrum as when someone dives in water from a considerable height water acts as a solid surface and can cause traumatic injury to eardrum.. It can lead to perforation.. I would suggest you to immediately consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and Otoscopic examination of ears can help in diagnosis.. In case if there is small perforation he can be advised to take antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkiller, decongestant Oral and nasal spray.. Antibiotic ear drops can be advised.. In case of large perforation Tympanoplasty or surgical correction of eardrum can be advised..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
