What Causes Severe Pain In Hips While Walking?

I have chronic/severe hip pain. it started around 4 years ago and has recently gotten worse. 4 years ago I did 12 weeks of physical therapy which didn t help at all. it has gotten to the point where walking moderate distances is very painful and causes my right left to sort of lock up. at night I get jolts of pain out of my hip that is very painful. my hip pops constantly. and everyday activities have become obstacles like walking, going u the stairs, bending don etc. What could ossibly be wrong?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Chronic and severe hip pain could be due to osteoarthritis, infection or inflammation around the hip joint.

I suggest you consult an orthopedician for clinical assessment and radiological investigations.
Treatment can be started once a definitive diagnosis is made.
In the meanwhile you can take painkillers for pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
