What Causes Severe Pain In Jaw, Ear And Throat Post Dental Bridge?
I had a bridge done about 3 weeks ago. The dentist said that one of the fillings was really deep and that I might need a root canal. I told the dentist that I did not have any pain before I had the bridge done so why would I have so much pain now. my pain is in my jaw, ear and throat. does this mean I need a root canal?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Dental caries which are deep enough can reach up to the dental root and cause pain in jaw, ear and throat. Pain is caused by infection reaching up to the dental root and it can lead to abscess. Accumulation of abscess can spread to surrounding areas like mandible, ear, and even brain so prompt action is required. A course of antibiotic will control the infection from spreading and will also relieve the pain. A X-ray of the jaw will determine the depth of caries and will also help to plan further mode of action.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
