What Causes Severe Pain In Rectum Of A Person With Gall Stones?

My mother is 90 and sharp as a tack. She s been in good health up until a few weeks ago when she was eventually diagnosed with gallstones. Today she s been having severe pain in her rectum. She s gone to a local clinic and plans to see her regular doctor tomorrow. The clinic doctor told her there was nothing unusual he could feel or notice up there. Could she be passing a gallstone? I ve tried to find out if and how they re passed at various medical sites and have seen nothing. Can you help?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Gall stones are not passed thru intestinal tract / rectum. It may be some pathology of rectum (inflammation or infection). If she is not relieved by a course of anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmotics or antibiotics, then she should go for colonoscopy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
