What Causes Severe Pain In Stomach Post Abdominal Surgery?

Good morning. My wife underwent abdominal surgery 11 days ago and has been recovering well. Last night she ate too much dinner and felt very uncomfortable afterwards. When she woke this morning she has severe stomach pain and her stomach seemed very tight. I gave her 2 paracetamol tablets with no effect. I then gave her a Dolo paracetamol tablet about 1 hour ago. Can I give her a Cyclopam tablet now, and should it work?

Hello,

Post operative abdomen pain seems to be colicky most likely secondary to constipation or other functional disturbances. As the cyclopam contains dicyclomine with paracetamol and she has been given already 2 tab of paracetamol, cyclopam should not be given at this point of time to avoid over dose of paracetamol content.

Instead of that, I would recommend an intake of plain dicyclomine as hyocimax or others else diclofenac for better results and instant relief. Discuss the case with your operating surgeon by appointment for further course of action and management guidelines. Till that time, take care that she should avoid to be constipated and plenty of liquids, high fiber diet with bulk forming laxative will help for sure in this regard.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
