What Causes Severe Pain In The Abdomen?

Hi, my son who s 30yrs old has a cold, he s also asthmatic. He is experiencing severe pain in his abdominal area. I advised him to go to the emergency room and he did Thursday night. They told him he has abdominal tear and just gave him pain medicine and something for bronchitis. My question is, is there something else that should be done for treatment? My son is in so much pain and I m just concerned something more should or could ve been done.

* Brief Answer:analgesics , antiinfilammatory drugs and local cream may help with muscle tear.antitussive and bronchodilator for cough.
*Explanation: My opinion is that in severe or chronic cough , sometimes a muscle tear happens as for increased intraabdominal pressure during cough.As long as your doctor checked for acute abdomen symptoms and signs and run the examination and investigations needed, there is nothing to worry about.
I suggest my patients the following : take antitussives ,bronchodilators and some analgesics and antiinfilammatory for muscular tear. 
The information provided by you is not sufficient to provide a good opinion. If someone comes to me with this condition I would ask them about medications prescribed by your doctor and if cough still an issue in your son.
